Ushio launches longer-life, 405nm, 600mW electrostatic-resistant laser diodes

NEWS: October 2022

HL40173MG, HL40175MG laser diodes offer increased voltage protection for biomedical, measurement, and 3D printing applications

Ushio has launched two new 405nm, 600mW (CW) laser diodes, HL40173MG and HL40175MG, with a lifetime* approximately twice that of conventional products.

There is increasing demand for laser diodes in the 405nm band which are commonly used as light sources in biomedical, measurement, and 3D printing applications which require further improvements in reliability and longer service life.

Light source demand for mask-less (direct imaging) exposure systems, which expose high-definition circuit patterns on substrates, has also grown significantly alongside consumer demand for smaller and higher performance smartphones.

405nm laser diode compatibility preserved while Zener diode adds improved versatility

n order to meet these market needs, Ushio has released 2 new laser diodes: HL40173MG and HL40175MG. The 405nm laser diodes maintain pin layout compatibility with the conventional products (HL40113MG and HL40115MG) while achieving approximately twice the lifetime of the conventional products.

In addition, HL40173MG and HL40175MG both feature a Zener diode as a safeguard against electrostatic discharge (ESD). The inclusion of the Zener means the 600mW laser diodes gain a built-in resistance to ESD, over-voltage, and reverse voltage, thereby making the products easier for customers to handle.

Due to the marked improvements over previously released 405nm, 600mW laser diodes, Ushio actively encourages current 405nm laser clients to consider switching to the HL40173MG and HL40175MG.

ABOUT Ushio

Ushio’s laser diode collection offers wavelengths across UV (375–405 nm), red (630–690 nm), and NIR (705–852 nm), with prospective optical output powers from 5 mW to 3,500 mW. Our LD collection has low and high power lasers, with low-operating currents, long lifespans, and efficiency, all while remaining 100% RoHS-compliant.

Ushio’s Epitex division has grown into the largest collection of light emitting diodes on the market. Covering all violet, visible, and infrared wavelengths, from 365 nanometres (nm) to 1,750 nm, this vast catalogue creates a one-stop-shop for single and multi-wavelength LEDs.
