Ushio releases new HL40211MG / HL40213MG single-mode laser diodes with the world's highest optical output power of 400mW at 405nm
Ushio has begun shipping samples of the HL40213MG, a single-mode laser diode with the industry's highest optical output power of 400mW in the 405nm wavelength band. The HL40213MG has stable beam quality over a wide operating temperature range of -5°C to 85°C. Due to popular demand, Ushio is also offering samples of the HL40211MG, a laser diode of the same series with a built-in photodiode.
Single-mode laser diodes with a wavelength of 405nm are widely used as a pickup light source for Blu-ray discs and, in recent years, they have been widely utilised in industrial sensors, medical equipment, measurement and analysis instruments, 3D scanners and 3D printers. With the expansion of applications, the demand for laser diodes with higher output power and more stable beam quality is increasing.
Back in 2023 Ushio started mass production of the HL40161/163 Series, a 175mW single-mode laser diode in the 405nm wavelength band. Since then, by optimising the laser diode chip design, Ushio has improved the optical output power to 400mW and successfully developed the HL40213MG which is now the industry's highest output power single-mode laser diode in the 405nm wavelength band. By adopting advanced crystal growth technology and a unique optical confinement control structure, this diode maintains transverse single-mode oscillation even in the high optical output power of 400mW, whilst ensuring uniform and stable beam quality and high reliability over a wide range of operating temperatures ranging from -5°C to 85°C.
This diode will enable high-precision measurement of targets, even with low reflectance, for measurement applications and is expected to further upgrade its performance for industrial sensors and measurement/analysis equipment such as wide-area 3D scanners and high-speed 3D printers.
